Daniel Sturridge raved about Lucas Paqueta, who continues to be linked with a move to Manchester City in the January transfer window.

The pundit lauded Paqueta on Sky Sports (17/12/2023) after he registered three assists for West Ham United during their 3-0 victory against Wolves on Sunday.

In August, it was claimed by Sky Sports that Manchester City had reached an agreement to sign the former Lyon maestro in a deal worth £80 million before the transfer famously fell through.

Daniel Sturridge praises “brilliant” Manchester City target Lucas Paqueta

The Brazilian international has had a phenomenal season, running the show in the middle of the park for West Ham.

In November, it was reported that City could re-ignite their interest in the 26-year-old come January.

When quizzed about Mohammed Kudus’ celebration for his opener, Daniel Sturridge also went on to praise Lucas Paqueta, who seems to be a target for Manchester City in the winter window.

“It [Mohammed Kudus’ celebration] was brilliant. He was a menace all game. [Lucas] Paqueta was brilliant as well, the passes he was playing and he got three assists so”, Sturridge said on Sky Sports.

Signing Lucas Paqueta could change the treble-winners’ season

Daniel Sturridge, like many, was blown away by Lucas Paqueta, who has shown this campaign that he has the quality to play for Manchester City.

The Europa Conference League winner, much like Ilkay Gundogan possesses an extremely complete profile.

It has been a challenge for City to replace the German, even though the likes of Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes could go down as top-notch signings with time.

For starters, both Kovacic and Nunes are not as impactful as Paqueta in the final third.

In the Croatian’s case, he lacks the ex-AC Milan attacker’s industriousness off the ball, in particular, who has the legs to defend in a double pivot for the Sky Blues if his move to the Etihad Stadium comes to fruition in January.

As for Matheus Nunes, he is not as technically gifted as Lucas Paqueta, who is up there in this respect with some of the best players in the Premier League.

With Paqueta ticking every possible box a No.8 should in today’s game, his potential arrival could transform the Sky Blues’ season in an instant.
