Manchester City have several players in their squad who know all about playing for England.

For example, Kyle Walker, John Stones and Phil Foden started all seven of England’s games during the 2024 European Championship.

Another City figure who knows about playing for England is Kalvin Phillips, who recently named Foden as the best player he’s ever played with.

More recently, in addition to those three City players, Jack Grealish and Rico Lewis have been involved in the Three Lions’ Nations League matches this season.

Following the recent announcement that Thomas Tuchel will become the next permanent England manager in January, one pundit and former Three Lions player has made a claim about what this could mean for one particular City player going forward.

Darren Bent makes Phil Foden prediction involving Thomas Tuchel

While discussing how Tuchel could manage England and the players available to him, Darren Bent said this in a recent video shared on the talkSPORT YouTube channel about what the German could do with Foden, in particular.

He said: “Foden for England, hasn’t been there. Regardless of how good he is for Manchester City which is unbelievable, one of the best players on the planet.

“When he puts an England shirt, he’s not the same and I think Thomas Tuchel will look at that and go, well no you’re not going to play.

“So I genuinely think Thomas Tuchel will not have an issue with [benching Foden].”

How did Foden free in his previous start for England?

England’s most recent matches saw them lose 2-1 to Greece at Wembley Stadium before beating Finland 3-1.

Starting against Greece, Foden was hooked in the second half after failing to register even one shot at goal or one key pass.

This then saw him get dropped for the Finland game and only come on for the final 10 minutes.

During the Greece match, Paul Robinson said Foden and Jude Bellingham kept getting in each other’s way.

Now that Bent has claimed that Tuchel would have no issue benching Foden if he felt his performances didn’t warrant a place in the England starting XI, the 24-year-old will have to make sure he does all he can to impress the German and earn a regular place in the team.
