After Manchester City won the treble in 2023, Paris Saint-Germain managed to replicate the feat last season after beating Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League final.
However, unlike Pep Guardiola’s men, who also managed to win the FIFA Club World Cup, PSG lost 3-0 to Chelsea in the final.
Cole Palmer stole the show against PSG by scoring a brace and assisting Joao Pedro’s goal as Luis Enrique’s side were well and truly outplayed at the MetLife Stadium.
With Manchester City fans coming across comparisons between this iteration of the French giants and their treble-winning side, they took to social media to lambast such claims after the Club World Cup final.

Man City fans say their treble-winning side is much better than PSG after Chelsea’s win
One Manchester City fan aimed a dig at PSG after Chelsea’s emphatic victory by simply writing: “Whoever compared these lot to ’22/23 City is delusional.”
A second supporter claimed that the only side that can be mentioned in the same breath as Pep Guardiola’s juggernaut are his Barcelona sides from 2008 until 2012, claiming: “Unless you plan on bringing up prime Barca, please keep ’22/23 City out of your mouths. Thank you and good night.”
A third Manchester City fan believes that their treble-winning side was on another level to this PSG team, writing: “Please never compare this PSG team to Man City ’22/23 ever again, there are levels to this game.”
A fourth City supporter claimed that even some of Pep Guardiola’s Premier League-winning sides are superior to Luis Enrique’s team, stating: “They were calling this PSG side better than Pep’s Barca and our treble team…isn’t even better than a couple City’s Prem teams.”
Another Sky Blues fan has a theory that PSG were fortunate to win the Champions League in particular last season, claiming they had a “lucky run”: “They are extremely beatable. We saw it in every round of the Champions League. Not once in the knockout stage was I confident they would go through. They had a very lucky run and were also very lucky no European teams were especially good last season.”
Lastly, a sixth fan claimed that with PSG scraping to the knockout runs, comparing them to Manchester City’s treble-winners is a disgrace: “Nah but swear this PSG team is so much better than City’s treble side? You know, the same PSG that also finished 15th in the UCL [Champions League] table.”
Considering how dear City’s iconic side is to the supporters at the Etihad Stadium, it comes as no surprise that they rubbished any such parallels between both teams.
