Rio Ferdinand has now randomly jumped to defend Scott Carson at Manchester City.
The 45-year-old posted the comment on Instagram.
So, what did Rio Ferdinand write about Scott Carson? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the £30,000-a-week glovesman is often looked at as a figure of fun at Manchester City.
Carson rarely plays – making just two appearances since arriving at Manchester City in 2019.
The 38-year-old currently finds himself behind Ederson and Stefan Ortega at the Etihad Stadium, although Ferdinand has now told people not to “underestimate” the role he plays under Pep Guardiola.
Writing on Instagram, the TNT Sports pundit put: “Scott Carson deserves respect – don’t underestimate the role he plays at City.”

Ferdinand randomly uploaded the words in the comments section of SPORTbible’s post on Instagram, who relayed his warning to Joleon Lescott about potentially taking his 2011/12 Premier League medal.
There was no mention of Carson, so unless a fan had made fun of the experienced goalkeeper before deleting their comment after Ferdinand replied, we can’t understand why the Manchester United legend defended the England international.
Nevertheless, his point still stands.
Scott Carson does have an important role at Manchester City
Football fans tend to make judgements based on what they see out on the pitch, which is why Carson – who rarely plays – hardly receives any praise.
However, a lot of success in football can be accredited to what goes on behind the scenes in the dressing room, and Carson’s experience has surely been a huge help for Guardiola.

For example, not many people will know that the Whitehaven-born glovesman had already won a UEFA Champions League in Istanbul with Liverpool, so his experience was presumably invaluable to Manchester City ahead of last season’s final in the same city.
Carson’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign – hopefully, Manchester City can find a similarly experienced presence to replace him, if an extension cannot be agreed.
