Erling Haaland’s status as one of the best players in the world cannot be called into question.

From Haaland’s time at Borussia Dortmund to his ongoing spell at Manchester City, he has been an absolute phenomenon and it could be argued that no player has matched his level of consistency during this period.

The 24-year-old’s remarkable standards have been met by trophies as well, as he lifted the DFB-Pokal at Dortmund and won a treble as well as back-to-back Premier League titles at City.

However, high-profile players like Erling Haaland tend to be compared to their contemporaries as they continue to raise the bar.

Even Julian Alvarez was often pitted against the Leeds-born striker during his time at the Etihad Stadium and ultimately, he had no choice but to leave the club to sign for Atletico Madrid in search of more game time.

Diego Forlan, who is widely regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation was quizzed about his thoughts on the decorated goalscorer.

Being an Atletico Madrid legend, Forlan was asked by the Champions League via TikTok to share whether he believes Alvarez, who leads the line for his former club is a better player than Haaland.

According to Diego Forlan, Alvarez is the superior player to the Manchester City frontman.

As Alvarez is loving life at Atletico Madrid and is having a brilliant first season, here are how his stats compare to that of Haaland’s this campaign.

The former Borussia Dortmund forward has managed to outscore the Argentine despite starting three less games in all competitions.

Haaland even has just one less assist than Alvarez, debunking Diego Forlan’s claim which is especially off the mark since Atletico Madrid have largely been excellent this term while Manchester City have had their fair share of struggles.
