Diego Forlan suggests Man City have a player who’s actually better than Cole Palmer and Viktor Gyokeres

Manchester United great Diego Forlan has suggested that one Manchester City star is better than Cole Palmer or Viktor Gyokeres.

The Premier League is bursting with great players already and even more are still to arrive in the transfer window ahead of the new season.

Manchester City are blessed with some of the best on the planet – literally in the case of Ballon d’Or winner, Rodri – but even that wasn’t enough to prevent a massively disappointing season in 2024-25.

Pep Guardiola failed to win a trophy and has gone about rebuilding his squad this summer with the additions of Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reinjnders and Rayan Ait Nouri.

They’re not alone, though, with Liverpool breaking the British transfer record to sign Florian Wirtz for £116m, alongside signing Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and the inbound Hugo Ekitike.

Liverpool are even still trying to add Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, too.

Chelsea have once again spent millions on a new set of forwards to go alongside Cole Palmer and Arsenal are set to finally recruit a striker in the shape of Viktor Gyokeres.

However, Diego Forlan believes Erling Haaland is better than both of them.

Diego Forlan thinks Erling Haaland is the one striker better than him

Former Manchester United striker Forlan has run the rule over several of the game’s top forwards today and believes Haaland is better than all of them.

The Uruguayan appeared on the TikTok channel futcrunch and was tasked with staying silent until his interviewer named a striker he thought was better than him.

Forlan was tight-lipped as the host listed his compatriot Darwin Nunez, Real Madrid’s Endrick, Gyokeres, Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus, Belgian forward Luis Openda, former City man Palmer, Inter talisman Lautaro Martinez and his former international teammate Edinson Cavani.

It wasn’t until Haaland’s name was mentioned that Forlan finally nodded and spoke, conceding that the Norwegian is better than him.

Should Manchester City be worried about Arsenal signing Viktor Gyokeres?

Though City have moved to strengthen their squad in several key areas after last season’s disaster, there is no guarantee that they will get back to their best.

If anything, the Premier League title race is looking much more challenging than it did a year ago.

After hardly spending a penny last year and winning the title, Arne Slot has splashed the cash to try and capitalise on Liverpool’s dominance.

Chelsea are newly crowned world champions and their new additions like Liam Delap and Joao Pedro look sharp.

Now Arsenal are finally getting their act together and signing a goal scorer, with Gyokeres bagging a remarkable 54 for Sporting last term.

The Premier League is obviously several levels above the Portuguese league, and Gyokeres may struggle to adapt, but City should certainly be worried about their rivals’ work in the summer.

An even tougher campaign could be in store.
