Bruno Fernandes has admitted Rodri of Manchester City is one of the toughest players he was ever come up against.

The Spaniard has been at the top of his game for a couple of years now.

Last season though, Rodri really was just unbelievable.

The £63 million signing from Atletico Madrid was absolutely key in City’s Treble bid.

He was the most used player last term under Pep Guardiola.

On Friday, Rodri picked up where he left off last season with a fine display against Burnley.

He scored, assisted and did all the amazing work he usually does in midfield.

It prompted Micah Richards to label it one of the best performances by a Man City midfielder he’s ever seen.

And now, there is even recognition from Fernandes…

Fernandes being an attacking midfield meant he was focused on the defensive midfielders of the Premier League.

So he answered: “In the Premier League you play against top players. Kante was difficult, Rodri was difficult, Declan Rice was really difficult.

“Declan and Rodri were physically very similar, Kante more small but quick and sharp. But there are many players because we play in the best league in the world so you get to play against the best players.”

Rodri the best of the best

There is still a fierce rivalry between City and United.

So for Fernandes to admit this about Rodri just shows how good he actually is and how respected he is by other players.

There really is no one better than him right now in that defensive midfield position.

He is simply incredible in all aspects of the role and it’s crazy to think he is still only 27.

Arguably, he hasn’t even entered his peak years yet.

Hopefully, he can just stay fit and healthy. Rodri did recently voice concerns about his game time, and you would imagine potential burnout is the only thing that could be an issue for him.
