Dimitar Berbatov is fondly remembered as one of the most stylish centre-forwards to have ever graced the Premier League.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United striker’s composed demeanour, immaculate first touch and sublime technical ability made him a joy to watch during his spell in England.
The Bulgarian played against both Sergio Aguero and Didier Drogba during his time in the Premier League.
Aguero and Drogba’s legacies are strikers who are up there with some of the best of the best in the league’s history is set in stone.
For Manchester City, the Argentine was an instant hit and one of the best foreign players to have stepped foot on English shores.
The same claim regarding Sergio Aguero can also be made about Didier Drogba and his legendary spell in a Chelsea shirt.

Dimitar Berbatov says Sergio Aguero was better than Didier Drogba
Both Aguero and Drogba have strong cases to be heralded as the most complete strikers to have ever played in England.
The former won five league titles in comparison to the latter’s four. However, Drogba won the Golden Boot award twice with 20 goals in 2007 and 29 in 2010 while Aguero won it just once in 2015 as he ended the campaign with 26 league goals.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Dimitar Berbatov claimed Sergio Aguero was superior to Didier Drogba, saying: “Purely on the goals, I will go [Sergio] Aguero to be honest. I used to love watching him play as well. Balance, everything, I’ll go with him.”
Both icons’ respective goal records in the Premier League indicate that the former Atletico Madrid marksman was the superior goalscorer out of the two.
| PLAYER | PREMIER LEAGUE GOALS | APPEARANCES |
| SERGIO AGUERO | 184 | 275 |
| DIDIER DROGBA | 104 | 254 |
Sergio Aguero outscored Didier Drogba by 80 goals while making just 21 more appearances than him in the division.
Erling Haaland has scored 74 league goals in 76 appearances and looks set to surpass the Champions League winner’s tally if he remains at Manchester City for longer.
Even Raheem Sterling, who remains a winger by trade scored 91 league goals in 225 appearances at the Etihad Stadium — 13 away from the Ivorian’s total in 29 less appearances than him.
Les Ferdinand says “sensational” Aguero was better than Drogba as well
In the same segment alongside Dimitar Berbatov, Les Ferdinand also stated that Sergio Aguero was the better striker out of him and Didier Drogba.
“I go back to everything, can you head it, can you hold it up, Aguero was sensational, one of the best imports ever to the Premier League. Didier [Drogba] as well, it’s tough but I would probably go Aguero.”
It seems like Ferdinand, who scored 149 league goals himself primarily feels Aguero was the better number nine due to being a more complete player.
Les Ferdinand and Dimitar Berbatov’s view on strikers is as credible as it gets, considering the damage they inflicted on defences during their respective spells in the English top-flight.
In their view, Aguero outdid Drogba, as he continues to be regarded as a legend of not just English football but football in general.
The biggest names in the sport continue to hold the retired hitman in high esteem.
