Dimitar Berbatov has claimed that he would have loved to have played alongside Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne during his playing days.
With 229 combined Premier League appearances to his name for United, Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham, the striker played with a significant number of top players during his time in England such as Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, among many others.
Having been retired from professional football since 2018, the 42-year-old has now highlighted one current top-flight player that he would have relished having in his team.
Berbatov names De Bruyne as dream teammate

Speaking in a recent quickfire interview shared on Prime Video Sport’s TikTok channel, Berbatov named De Bruyne as the one current Premier League player that he would have loved to have played with.
During his time at City, who paid £55m to sign the midfielder back in the 2015 summer transfer window from German club Wolfsburg, the Belgian has scored 96 goals and provided 153 assists in 358 appearances across all competitions.
Taking into account how proficient the 32-year-old has been in terms of setting up goalscoring opportunities over the years, it’s no surprise that a former striker such as Berbatov would have loved the chance to have a figure like De Bruyne in his team.
Specifically, the previous Premier League season saw the midfielder show just how capable he is when it comes to setting up chances for his teammates.
For example, De Bruyne ended the campaign with more goal-creating actions (31) than any other player in the league, as well as having the highest rate of shot-creating actions made per 90 minutes (6.55).
This shows that a striker like Berbatov, who scored 56 goals in 149 appearances for United across all competitions, would have benefited from having the City star feeding him goalscoring opportunities on a regular basis.
