Dimitar Berbatov has said that he would have loved to work with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola during his playing career.

Prior to retiring from professional football back in 2018, the 42-year-old had featured for numerous managers across his career such as Alex Ferguson, Martin Jol and Claudio Ranieri, among others.

Now though, the Bulgarian has named another top-flight manager that he would have relished playing for on a regular basis.

Speaking in a recent quickfire interview shared on Prime Video Sport’s TikTok channel, Berbatov named Guardiola as the one current Premier League manager that he would have loved to have played under.

Looking at the Spaniard’s coaching career, he has overlooked 732 games in total for Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City, winning 620 of them, drawing 112 and losing 105.

In terms of his achievements, the 52-year-old has won 11 league titles, five at City and three each at Barcelona and Bayern, in addition to three Champions Leagues and numerous other trophies.

With Guardiola also having a reputation when it comes to improving players and being able to get the most out of the majority he has coached, this further highlights why Berbatov would have loved to have been managed by the City boss.

Having also been described as a “ruthless” coach by the i Newspaper, the 52-year-old certainly knows what it takes to win titles and handle big stars in his squads.

Even though the former United striker ended his playing career with two Premier League titles, three League Cups and a FIFA Club World Cup, it would be likely that he would have won more silverware had Berbatov had the chance to play in a Guardiola side.

Taking into account Berbatov’s successful spell in England, it would have been interesting to see how the centre-forward would have fared if he did experience playing in a Guardiola team.
