Girona sporting director Quique Carcel has said that manager Michel has the potential to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, he lauded the 48-year-old, who has led the City Football Group side to the top of the table in La Liga this season.
With Pep Guardiola contracted to Manchester City until 2025, the question is which manager will come in to succeed him one day.
Girona sporting director Quique Carcel says Michel “has the talent” to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City
Since joining the Sky Blues in 2016, the Catalan tactician has dominated English football in a way that only Sir Alex Ferguson did during his time at Manchester United.
In the 2023/2024 season, Guardiola has the chance to win four Premier League titles in a row, making him the first coach to do so in the nation’s history, which emphasises his unprecedented dominance.
Now, Quique Carcel has backed Michel, at least in terms of his talent to be able to be the rightful heir to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

“He has the talent to lead a big club like Manchester City [but] still needs time to get there to this type of benches. City plays football that Michel, with a smaller club, is being able to do”, he told Mundo Deportivo.
“Although for him to train them, a lot of coordination has to happen, like Pep [Guardiola] making the decision to leave.”
Pep Guardiola is irreplaceable
While Michel is doing a phenomenal job at Girona and Quique Carcel is right to have sung his praises, replacing Pep Guardiola would be mission impossible for Manchester City.
Would the Spaniard be a solid appointment for the treble-winners? Potentially.
But would Michel be able to replicate Pep Guardiola’s dominance? That is unlikely to be the case, realistically speaking.
