Michael Brown has now reacted after Kalvin Phillips endured a tough debut for West Ham – following his arrival on loan from Manchester City.
The 47-year-old made the comments when speaking to the Football News Show on BBC.
So, what did Michael Brown say about Manchester City loanee Kalvin Phillips? Let’s take a look…
What Michael Brown said about Kalvin Phillips
Well, the man who made 99 appearances for Manchester City believes the England international will be “disappointed” with his West Ham debut.
Phillips was caught on the ball inside just three minutes on Thursday evening as Bournemouth went 1-0 up at the London Stadium thanks to Dominic Solanke.
West Ham eventually managed to secure a 1-1 draw against the Cherries thanks to a penalty from Ward-Prowse in the 61st minute, moments before the Manchester City loanee was withdrawn by David Moyes in the 68th minute.
After watching Phillips struggle on his debut for West Ham, Brown said: “It will take four or five games for West Ham players to get to know how Phillips plays. He will be disappointed he didn’t play for longer and that they didn’t get a win.
“He hasn’t started fantastically, but he is a real fighter and I believe in him.”
In our view, there has been a slight overreaction to the mistake from Phillips.

The 28-year-old has hardly played any football this season, as Pep Guardiola handed him just 89 minutes of Premier League action.
Therefore, Phillips is bound to be a little bit rusty, and his performances will surely only improve for West Ham.
How Kalvin Phillips performed on first appearance since Manchester City exit
Aside from his error, Phillips actually performed well for someone who has barely featured this season.
The Yorkshireman recorded four successful tackles – only three players on the pitch registered more – while his passing was generally quite crisp with a 82.9% success rate, as WhoScored shows.

Phillips also had a shot on target and won two aerial duels.
With a few more minutes under his belt, we are confident of the Leeds-born maestro turning things around.
