Don Hutchison sends ‘brutal’ heads up to Man City star Rodri about ACL rehab

Manchester City fans were rocked yesterday by the news that Rodri has suffered an ACL injury.

The Spaniard limped off against Arsenal on Sunday after going down in the first-half. He received treatment for several minutes before leaving the field of play.

After some suggestions that Rodri‘s injury was not as bad as first feared, it was then widely reported in the evening that the player had suffered an ACL tear, leaving fans devastated.

He is set to miss the rest of the season, which is a hammer blow for Manchester City.

Rodri has been an integral player for City for years now – and Pep Guardiola will be without him for the foreseeable.

It is one of the worst possible injuries for a footballer – and former midfielder Don Hutchison is a man who’s been through what Rodri is about to experience.

When Rodri crumpled to the ground, every City fan feared the worst.

The sight of him hobbling off, rather than leaving via a stretcher, was a sight seen positively. But fans were merely reacting out of hope.

Rodri has sustained a torn ACL and that is about as bad as it gets for a footballer.

He will likely miss the rest of the season, and then there will be question marks about how he will fare when he comes back.

Don Hutchison reacted to yesterday’s news on X, after watching City draw 2-2 with Arsenal.

The former midfielder has said that he knew immediately that Rodri had suffered ACL damage, as he suffered a similar injury back in 2002 while playing for West Ham United.

And he has sent a message to Rodri regarding the rehab that is to come.

He said: “I said watching the Man City game yesterday. I sort of knew Rodri had done his ACL. I’ve been there myself and you can just tell.

“The rehab is brutal. Surgeon will take part of his hamstring and use that as the new ACL graft. All the very best to him.”

Rodri has a tough road ahead

Rodri looked as though he already knew that he would be out for a long time while he was being treated on the pitch against Arsenal.

The 28-year-old was almost in tears, and that was perhaps an indicator of the awful news that was to come last night.

Rodri now clearly has a gruelling road to recovery ahead of him.

It is a huge blow for City and a major shame for Rodri, and hopefully this will not have any bearing on the upcoming Ballon d’Or award. Most people feel the 2024 is between the City midfielder and Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr.

Rodri will get the best possible treatment in the coming months and fans will hope to see him back on that pitch as soon as possible.
