Ally McCoist has once again moved to praise Phil Foden and made a fresh claim about the Manchester City star.

Phil Foden was once again the star of the show on Sunday as he inspired his side’s victory in the Manchester derby.

Manchester United took a shock lead at the Etihad after Marcus Rashford scored a screamer in the early stages.

But Manchester City continued to control the game and their dominance told just after the break when Foden blasted in his own incredible goal.

The 23-year-old slotted home a smart finish to give Pep Guardiola’s side the lead before Erling Haaland avenged an earlier sitter to make it three late on.

It was a vital win for City that keeps them within a point of Liverpool ahead of meeting the Premier League leaders this coming Sunday.

Ally McCoist was once again full of praise for Foden after the match and thinks England fans will be hoping he starts in midfield for England at Euro 2024.

Ally McCoist praises Phil Foden

Speaking on TalkSPORT, McCoist said: “I’ve said it for five weeks Jeff [Stelling] and I might get a little bit of stick because with Ally it’s the Phil Foden love-in.

“I don’t care what anybody says, he’s different class.

“Gareth’s [Southgate] team, it’s Harry [Kane], Phil Foden one side and then we can debate the other one.

“Saka, Anthony Gordon, Rashford, Grealish, that’s up for debate.”

His co-host Jeff Stelling interjected to say: “Does he look at his squad now and think, OK, I’m going to build this team around Foden, Bellingham and Rice.”

McCoist replied: “You’d hope so, if you’re an England supporter you’d hope so wouldn’t be. That’s mouthwatering it really is.”

What a team England could have at Euro 2024

England fans are certainly guilty of saying this every time a tournament rolls around, but this time it rings more true than ever.

The Three Lions could have an absolutely incredible team for Euro 2024, if Gareth Southgate lets it happen.

You can’t blame the manager for his cautious approach in tournaments as it’s got England further than anyone else in a generation but it has also held them back at times.

Now he really has the players at his disposal to put out an XI that would frighten every other nation.

As McCoist says, a midfield trio of Foden, Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice is mouthwatering and all three are capable of hard defensive work, so it’s not as attack-heavy as it appears.

In reality, though, Foden may well get placed out on the left so a defensive midfielder can come into the midfield as well.
