Pundit Stewart Robson has claimed that Kevin De Bruyne could be facing a lengthy spell out of action due to his hamstring injury.
After being forced off the pitch with a hamstring issue he had struggling with in the weeks leading up to City’s Champions League final clash against Inter Milan, the same thing happened again in the first half of the recent 3-0 win over Burnley.
This then led to Pep Guardiola revealing that it was the same hamstring issue that led to the 32-year-old going off at Turf Moor and that he would be having a scan on it yesterday.
Now, one pundit has had his say on the Belgian, who City signed for £55m back in 2015, and what the immediate future could look like in terms of his absence from the team.
Pundit says De Bruyne could be out for a while
Speaking in a recent video on the ESPN FC YouTube channel, Robson had this to say about De Bruyne and his injury issue.
He said: “It doesn’t matter what team you are, Kevin De Bruyne is still the best passer of the ball in world football.
“He can pick out passes that other players can’t do, so you can have people that can run with the ball, you can have players that like to play little one-twos like Bernardo Silva, play around pressure, you’ve got Erling Haaland who can make forward runs, you’re going to miss Kevin De Bruyne when he’s not playing.
“I don’t think this is going to be a short-term injury, this is a hamstring injury that has gone on for quite some time now.”
Having made more key passes (96) than any other City player in the Premier League last season, this backs up why Robson was so full of praise for the midfielder’s ability to move the ball around the pitch in extravagant ways and help his side create goalscoring opportunities.
Even though the Citizens won five of the six league games that De Bruyne didn’t feature in during their last campaign, not having him available will still be a big blow for them going forward if he does end up facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
