Tan Kesler – Vice Chairman of Hull City – has now revealed that the Tigers would love to sign Liam Delap on loan from Manchester City for another season.

The 45-year-old was quoted by Hull Live.

So, what was said about Manchester City gem Liam Delap? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Turk actually admitted that Hull City had doubts about signing the 20-year-old due to his struggles on loan elsewhere.

Despite his outstanding record at youth level – Delap has scored 35 goals in just 36 games for Manchester City’s U21 side – the striker found life tough on loan at Stoke and Preston.

The England U21 international scored just three goals in 23 appearances on loan at Stoke in the first half of the 2022/23 campaign, before netting once in 15 games at Preston in the second half of last season.

However, Delap has already scored four goals in 16 appearances for Hull, and the Tigers seem to be very happy with the Manchester City prospect.

Kesler was quoted by Hull Live as saying: “The chairman (Acun Ilicali) dreams about having him for another year. If the circumstances fit, we keep him. Any player we have, whether it’s loan or permanent, we’ll always look to improve our squad.

“If they perform, their job is safe. For loan players, we look after them like they’re our own… If Liam (Delap) leaves we have options. We had doubts about Liam after his previous loans but we knew under Liam (Rosenior), Liam Delap would thrive.”

Manchester City must persist with Liam Delap

After setting such high expectations following his remarkable goalscoring run in the U21 side, some at Manchester City were surely saddened to see Delap struggle at Stoke and Preston.

However, the Winchester-born forward would have still learned a lot during these loan spells, and at the age of just 20, Manchester City have to keep faith with the son of Rory Delap.

If Delap can even take a fraction of his effectiveness at U21 level into senior football, he will be a handful for most opponents.

Hopefully, Hull continue to help the City Football Academy graduate develop, and he can become an important player for Manchester City in years to come.
