Eddie Howe has been speaking about Manchester City as he and Newcastle prepare to take on Pep Guardiola this Saturday.

The 46-year-old made the comments when chatting to Jim White on talkSPORT.

So, what did Eddie Howe say about Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

Eddie Howe makes comment about Manchester City

Well, the Amersham-born tactician told White that he believes Manchester City are “probably” the best team in the Premier League, and have been for more than five years.

Howe said: “We fully respect Manchester City. They have been the best team in the Premier League when you consider – probably – the last five years. I think they’ve been incredible, probably even longer (than five years).

“They have got – for me – probably the best manager in world football, but we don’t fear anybody.”

Newcastle are currently on a run of just one win in six Premier League outings amid something of an injury crisis at St James’ Park.

Howe has just lost Joelinton after the Brazilian suffered a knock in the 3-0 win over Sunderland, with the South American joining Joe Willock, Nick Pope, Harvey Barnes, Callum Wilson, Jacob Murphy and Elliot Anderson in the treatment room.

Sandro Tonali also remains out through suspension.

Pep Guardiola will be without two key players once again vs Newcastle

Unfortunately, Erling Haaland and John Stones remain unavailable for Guardiola.

The Spaniard confirmed in his press conference earlier on Friday that the Norway international and the England international are still absent.

Guardiola is quoted by Manchester City’s official website as saying: “No. Erling is out and John is out. I think that’s everything.”

Jack Grealish – who Howe praised earlier this season – is also a doubt after an illness.

Nevertheless, Manchester City should still have enough firepower to overcome a depleted Newcastle side – although Joleon Lescott doubts Guardiola will hand Kevin De Bruyne a start.
