Manchester City are back on the road this weekend with a Premier League clash against Newcastle United awaiting them.

City’s four previous matches in all competitions have been at the Etihad Stadium, two of which they won whilst drawing the other two.

With Pep Guardiola’s side now turning their attention back to the Premier League following Tuesday’s Carabao Cup victory over Watford, they will be aiming to keep their unbeaten run going and stay at the top of the table.

In the build-up to this match at St. James’ Park between City and Newcastle, some details have come to light regarding one key player the home side may not be able to call upon to face the champions.

Eddie Howe shares injury update on Newcastle star ahead of Man City clash

Speaking in his recent press conference (via @NUFC), Eddie Howe said this about the current fitness status of Alexander Isak.

He said: “Alex is still nursing his toe injury; he will be a doubt for tomorrow. He hasn’t trained yet so we will have to make a decision on him.”

How has Isak performed so far this season for Newcastle?

Having started all five league games for the Tyneside club in this campaign, completing the full 90 minutes in four of them, Isak has scored one goal and delivered one assist for his side.

Despite having more shots at goal (11) than any other Newcastle player in the league this season, only two of them have been on target.

While he may not have started this campaign particularly strongly in terms of being deadly in front of goal, he’d still be a miss for the Toon if he’s unable to feature against City on Saturday.

Regardless of whether Isak plays on Saturday or not, Guardiola will only be focused on his own side and how they fare in the match as they aim to keep their place at the top of the league table and potentially move closer to winning a fifth consecutive league trophy.
