Ederson says Man City have an outfielder who actually has ‘lots of potential’ as a goalkeeper

Having been Manchester City’s number one since 2017, Ederson Moraes knows exactly what it takes to be a world-class goalkeeper.

From day one, Ederson justified why Manchester City pursued his signature just one season after signing Claudio Bravo from Barcelona.

The £35 million man turned out to be a revelation from day one.

Into his eighth season at City, Peter Schmeichel feels Ederson is better than Alisson Becker and is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.

The Brazilian international has not shown any signs of slowing down in a Manchester City shirt as well.

Ederson names Man City star who would be a quality goalkeeper

Pep Guardiola addressed Ederson’s potential summer exit by recently admitting that he was worried that he would bid farewell to the Sky Blues.

During his time at the Etihad Stadium, the 30-year-old has many 341 appearances for the club.

Ederson has won six Premier League titles, one Champions League trophy in a treble-winning season, two FA Cup trophies, four Carabao Cups, a UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup — exemplifying how successful his move to Manchester City has been.

The decorated shotstopper is widely regarded as a Premier League legend.

In a video with Manchester City’s in-house media, Ederson made a five-a-side team full of goalkeepers.

However, the former Benfica goalkeeper opted for Kyle Walker in net after he put a shift in as a goalkeeper during City’s 1-1 draw with Atalanta during the Champions League in 2019.

Ederson revealed that Walker has potential as a goakeeper.

Ederson said: “Kyle Walker. I think he could help us a lot here.”

“In a game that he went to play as goalkeeper, he showed lots of potential and I think he would help our team a lot.”

“Our team could play a forward position, having the ball on our backs, stopping balls also.”

“To start the build-up too.”

Guardiola revealed why Walker was Man City’s emergency goalkeeper against Atalanta

When Walker did infamously get drafted as an emergency goalkeeper as Ederson picked up an injury and Bravo was eventually sent off against Atalanta, Pep Guardiola revealed why he was chosen ahead of other outfield players in the City side.

Guardiola said via Manchester Evening News: “We didn’t know before but Xavi Mancisidor, our goalkeeper coach, suggested him for his courage and because he is quick.”

“We are lucky we only conceded one shot on target when he was in goal but congratulations for the courage and desire to help the team in this position.”

Considering Manchester City’s goalkeeping coach agrees with Ederson, perhaps Walker could well do a job in between the sticks.

Pep Guardiola would hope that a repeat of the contest against Atalanta does not transpire again.

However, if such a situation does occur, Manchester City could rely on Walker.
