Erling Haaland has today responded to the comments made by Trent Alexander-Arnold about Liverpool enjoying their trophy wins more than Manchester City.
The Reds defender lit the fuse ahead of Sunday’s huge game between the two clubs at Anfield, when he compared what the winning of trophies means to each club and fanbase.
Alexander-Arnold appeared to take a swipe at City, suggesting financial power detracts from City’s success.
He controversially said (via Daily Mail): “We’re up against a machine that’s built to win – that’s the simplest way to describe City and their organisation.
“Looking back on this era, although they’ve won more titles than us and have probably been more successful, our trophies will mean more to us and our fanbase because of the situations at both clubs, financially.
“How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we’ve done it, probably means more to our fans.”
These comments were put to Haaland today, and Norwegian sensation Erling Haaland was far from impressed…
Erling Haaland claps back at Trent Alexander-Arnold after trophy comments

Fresh from scoring his 29th goal of the season for City against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League, Haaland gave an interview with Sky Sports ahead of Sunday’s huge game with Liverpool.
He was asked about the comments made by Alexander-Arnold.
It is safe to say that he didn’t exactly brush them off, and he made a pretty cheeky retort using City’s Treble win from last season.
The 23-year-old said (via MEN): “If he wants to say that, okay. I’ve been here one year and won the treble and it was quite a nice feeling. I don’t think he knows that feeling. That’s what I felt last season, it was quite nice.
“They can talk as much as they want or we can talk as much as we want. I don’t know why he does that, but I don’t mind.”
Sunday’s game could be spicy
Alexander-Arnold has certainly lit the fuse ahead of Sunday’s game and the match now has the potential to be a cracker.
All of the City players will be aware of what he has said, and they’ll be determined to punish the defender and his teammates for it on Sunday.
Haaland will be especially fired up as he seeks to go past the 30-goal mark for all competitions.
The motivation is well and truly there now after what Alexander-Arnold said. Those comments, plus the potential to replace Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.
