As Erling Haaland got on the scoresheet for Manchester City in their 3-1 win against Copenhagen, he matched Sergio Aguero in one respect.

The City number nine scored a wonderful goal, as he took Rodri’s floated pass down to perfection before cutting inside and slotting the ball past Kamil Grabara.

After Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez doubled the hosts’ lead at the Etihad Stadium within nine minutes of the contest, the Norwegian superstar added to the visitors’ misery with a brilliant strike in the first half on Wednesday night.

With Pep Guardiola’s men qualifying for the quarter-finals of the tournament, their star striker also made headlines for all the right reasons.

However, while Haaland has scored 41 goals in Europe’s elite competitions in 37 games, Aguero had done so in 79 matches.

Erling Haaland was born to play in the Champions League

While some may sneer at the goal record Sergio Aguero has in the Champions League, the truth is that Erling Haaland has always been outstanding in Europe’s elite competition.

Not many players in the history of football have performed as well as the former Borussia Dortmund striker has in the competition, while also going on to win it last season.

For Haaland to have scored as many as 41 goals in the Champions League at just 23 years of age just goes to show that by the time he retires, especially statistically, he has the time and potential to go down as one of the competition’s best-ever players alongside other strikers like Benzema and Van Nistelrooy.
