ESPN pundit claims Man City ‘aren’t the same team’ when £55m star doesn’t play

4Manchester City are approaching their next Premier League campaign as they look to win another title.

In their previous season, Pep Guardiola’s side became the first team to win four consecutive Premier League trophies.

Winning 28 of their 38 league games, the Citizens also scored more goals (96) than any other side in the division.

Now that another campaign is around the corner, a pundit has highlighted one player in City’s squad who he thinks gives the Blues the star quality that makes them the best team in the country.

Stewart Robson says Kevin De Bruyne puts Man City above anyone else

While previewing the upcoming Premier League campaign in a recent video shared on the ESPN UK YouTube channel, Stewart Robson had this to say on which particular player he thinks puts City a level above the rest.

He said: “Whenever I watch them, the player that, for me, inspires Manchester City, makes them from a brilliant side to a great side is Kevin De Bruyne.

“It all depends whether he’s fully fit and if he’s not fully fit and we’ve seen stats of how many goals he creates for [Erling] Haaland, he’s the key player, he still is the key player for Man City and if he doesn’t play or he’s not fully fit, Manchester City aren’t the same team.”

De Bruyne is a crucial player for City and Guardiola

After scoring seven goals and delivering 16 assists in 32 league appearances during City’s Treble-winning campaign, the midfielder missed a large chunk of last season with a hamstring injury.

Despite only making 18 league appearances last term, De Bruyne, who City paid £54m to sign back in 2015, still managed to find the back of the net four times and supply 10 assists.

Back in June, Alan Shearer admitted that the Belgian is his dream teammate due to his ability to create goalscoring chances.

Having proved himself to be so capable when it comes to regularly delivering goal contributions from midfield, we agree with Robson about how special De Bruyne is and what sort of impact he has on City.
