Manchester City drew 1-1 with Liverpool at Anfield – and Virgil van Dijk acknowledged the quality and intensity of Pep Guardiola’s side after the game.
The huge game ended all square and realistically, it was probably a fair result.
Both sides had their moments in the game and both may have found a winner in the second-half. Jeremy Doku went close at the end of City as he hit the post, and the Reds also had a few decent opportunities but Stefan Ortega did well after replacing Ederson.
It was certainly another very high-quality game between two amazing teams.
After the game, Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk gave his thoughts to Sky Sports about the contest…
Virgil dan Dijk praises Manchester City’s quality after 1-1 draw at Anfield

Games between Manchester City and Liverpool always make for brilliant viewing.
The two teams under Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have often put on a show for fans over the years, and the battles the pair have had will be looked back on very fondly.
van Dijk said afterwards (Sky Sports): “Manchester City has been very successful with the titles they have won and every game we have played against each other have been very intense. Every game is so difficult, they have quality all over the pitch and that is why they won the Treble last year. I respect that but the aim for us today was to win the game.
“To come away with a point is not a bad situation and we have to focus on what’s next. We just have to enjoy the ride.”
Fair play to van Dijk
It is clear that van Dijk has a huge amount of respect for Manchester City and fair play to him for the comments he made after the game.
It’s likely some of City’s players will probably have similar things to say about this Liverpool team, and the team of the last few years under Klopp.
They have been a huge push for City over the years, and games against them are always very difficult especially at Anfield. Arguably, the challenge they have presented has enabled City to become as relentless as they have been.
It is undoubtedly good news for City that Klopp is leaving at the end of the season, and it will be fascinating to see who replaces the German, and if the new man is able to get them playing to a similar level.
