Ex-Man United player picks who he thinks is better for Man City – Ruben Dias or John Stones

Manchester City boast one of the best defences in the Premier League.

Looking back over their previous Premier League campaign, Pep Guardiola’s side ended the season with just 34 goals conceded, leaving only Arsenal (29) to have conceded fewer.

Despite letting more goals in than the Gunners, the Citizens still managed to regain their Premier League trophy and become the first side to win four in a row.

With the Blues having a strong crop of defenders in their squad, two of them have now found themselves being put up against each other, with one former Premier League star sharing his verdict on which one he thinks is better.

Nani picks between John Stones and Ruben Dias

In a recent video uploaded to the talkSPORT YouTube channel, Nani was asked to build a combined Portugal and England XI by choosing who he prefers out of two separate players from the current squads.

When asked to choose between Ruben Dias and John Stones for one of the centre-back roles, the former United star picked Dias.

Dias had a better season than Stones

Having been at the club since 2016, Stones has made 257 appearances across all competitions.

Then with Dias, the Portuguese international joined City back in the 2020 summer transfer window and has featured in 178 games with the Blues across all competitions.

Over the previous league campaign, the Englishman only made 16 appearances, whereas Dias made 30.

In fact, the 27-year-old ended the season with the highest total of clearances (77) and interceptions (30) in the City squad.

Back in May, Bernardo Silva said that Dias is a crucial player for the Blues due to how reliable he is at the back and how this gives the players ahead of him on the pitch the confidence to play the way they do.

Taking all of that into account, and the Portuguese connection, it’s understandable why Nani picked Dias over Stones on this occasion, even though both have undoubtedly been key figures for City over recent years.
