In the main article, City published quotes from Txiki about the 29-year-old.

The sporting director said (mancity.com): “Bernardo has been exceptional during his time at the Etihad, so we’re delighted that he has signed a contract extension with the Club.

“His quality and technical ability is fantastic – and alongside his hard work and professionalism, he has become one of the best players in the world.

“Bernardo was so important in our Treble-winning season and we are sure he can help deliver even more trophies in the next few years.”

City’s piece also features previously quotes from Pep Guardiola, who called Bernardo ‘something special as a football player’.

This is absolutely amazing news.

Bernardo sticking around is as big as the club signing quality players like Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol, if not bigger.

So for him to now be sticking around at the Etihad is brilliant news for the club.

There have been some suggestions that he has a very meetable release clause in his new deal.

But it’s a boost for City even if Bernardo stays for just one more season, because the club simply couldn’t lose him this summer.
