Gary Linker has heaped praise on Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden after his latest performance.
The Englishman scored a goal and provided an assist in the Manchester club’s recent 3-1 win over Copenhagen in the Champions League.
This has since led to him being on the receiving end of some significant praise from someone who knows what it takes to play top-level football.
Lineker wowed by Foden

Speaking in a recent episode of The Rest Is Football, Lineker had this to say about Foden.
He said: “I think he continues to improve as a player. He’s sharp, his work rate, as well, is underestimated and I think we have to probably thank Pep Guardiola for that because of the nature of which he plays football and the fact that you have to win the ball back. If you lose it, you have to win it back as quickly as you can, high up the pitch as well.
“His energy levels, I think, are extraordinary, he plays game after game, he very really gets injured. Fingers crossed he’ll stay fit but whatever position he plays in he’s impactful and he was again on Tuesday night.
“I agree with you his best position is just behind that frontman as a 10. He’s quick, he’s sharp, his decision making, his bits of skill when he goes past players, he’s a different kind of footballer to Kevin De Bruyne.”
Foden’s efforts in midweek earned him a strong match rating of 9.2/10 from SofaScore, making him the highest-rated City player on the night.
This makes it easy to see why he has been the topic of discussion with Lineker and why the former England striker has been so complimentary about him.
Throughout the entire season, the 23-year-old has scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists in 36 games across all competitions, proving how pivotal he is to the team and how effective he is in front of goal.
With all of that taken into account, it’s clear that Foden thoroughly deserves the praise that Lineker has shared about him.
