Chris Sutton has shared his prediction for Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League clash against Liverpool.
With the latest international break out of the way, the Citizens are back in domestic action this weekend with a big game against Liverpool facing them in front of their home fans at the Etihad Stadium.
Looking ahead to this eye-catching clash, one pundit has shared his thoughts on how he feels this game will go and who will come out of it victorious.
Sutton drops City prediction for Liverpool clash

Written in his latest column for BBC Sport where he predicted all of this weekend’s Premier League fixtures, Sutton had this to say about tomorrow’s clash between City and Liverpool.
He said: “Liverpool carry such a threat through Mohamed Salah, and Darwin Nunez has been on fire for Uruguay this week – scoring three goals in total against Argentina and Bolivia. Nunez does miss a few too, we know that, but he will be a handful, and the pace that Liverpool have on the counter-attack means they are very capable of rattling Manchester City the same way Chelsea did before the international break.
“City won’t change their approach though, because they don’t take a backward step against anyone. I’d expect them to dominate possession, and of course, they will play on the front foot even though they know Liverpool can hurt them on the break.
“Home advantage will definitely help, though. Pep Guardiola’s side have won all 23 of their games at Etihad Stadium so far this year and their draw with Everton on 31 December 2022 was the last time they failed to win there, in any competition.
“That’s the main reason why I am going for them to just about edge this one and find a way to win but, whether [Erling] Haaland plays or not, it is going to be extremely close.”
With 12 league games played, City and Liverpool find themselves at the top of the table.
Guardiola’s side currently occupy the top spot with 28 points having won nine, drawn one and lost two of their games, scoring 32 goals and conceding 12 along the way.
As for Liverpool, the Reds are second in the table with 27 points having won eight of their games, drawing three and losing one, finding the back of the net 27 times and conceding 10 goals in the process.
With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why Sutton thinks tomorrow’s clash will be a close call in terms of the final result given how impressive these two sides have been so far this season.
