Fabrizio Romano says Man City have agreed to sell defender for £21m

Manchester City have cashed in on a few players during this latest summer transfer window.

Specifically, City have sold Sergio Gomez, Liam Delap, Tommy Doyle and Taylor Harwood-Bellis to a range of clubs throughout the summer transfer period.

Previous windows have also seen Pep Guardiola’s team loan out several other players to sides in England and across Europe.

In the middle of the Manchester club’s pre-season tour of America, some behind-the-scenes details have come to light regarding another player who looks to be on his way out of the Etihad Stadium.

Fabrizio Romano says Man City have an agreement to sell Yan Couto to Borussia Dortmund

In a recent post shared on his official X account, Fabrizio Romano had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Yan Couto to Borussia Dortmund, here we go! Verbal agreement in place for BVB to sign former Girona right back.

“Package will be worth €25m (£21m) with add-ons and Couto has agreed on long-term deal. He’s expected to travel this week for medical.”

City have done well to cash in on Couto

City originally signed Couto from Brazilian club Cortitba back in 2020 but have loaned him out to the likes of Braga and Girona ever since.

During his second spell with Girona last season, the right-back scored one goal and supplied 10 assists in 34 La Liga appearances.

Back in May, it was reported that Guardiola had no plans to use the defender in his City side for the upcoming season, which is what has presumably led to Dortmund looking to land a deal for him.

In our view, to sell a player who hasn’t made a single first-team appearance for such a significant amount of money is a great business move from City.

Moving forward, with the end of the summer transfer window in mind, it’ll be interesting to see what the Blues do with the money they’ve gathered for the players they have sold.
