Manchester City have reportedly entered the race to sign Gabri Veiga as an alternative to Declan Rice.

The Citizens pulled out of the race to sign the West Ham United midfielder this morning after seeing a £90m bid rejected for him.

Now though, the Manchester club have already set their sights on signing someone they see as a suitable alternative to the Englishman.

In a recent Twitter post, Fabrizio Romano said this on the matter.

He said: “EXCL: Manchester City have entered the race for Spanish talent Gabri Veiga after pulling out of Declan Rice deal. He’s one of the options now being considered at the club. #MCFC.

“Liverpool and Chelsea remain interested but City also informed now. Release clause: €40m.”

After scoring 10 goals in 64 appearances for Celta Vigo’s youth side, the 21-year-old has made 55 senior appearances for the Spanish club across all competitions, finding the net 11 times and providing four assists.

Having also caught the attention of Liverpool and Chelsea, as Romano mentioned, this highlights how highly sought after the youngster is.

With 36 La Liga appearances to his name last season, the midfielder ended the campaign with the joint-highest number of shots on target (29) at Celta, as well as having the second-highest rate of shot-creating actions per 90 minutes (3.14) and the third-highest total of key passes (28) made at the club.

This highlights how much of a useful attacking threat he can be from midfield and what he could be able to offer Pep Guardiola’s side.

Taking into account how it was recently announced that Ilkay Gundogan will be joining Barcelona this summer, a move for Veiga could be City’s plan to have a suitable replacement for the German.

Moving forward, if City see Veiga as someone that can become a solid addition to their side, we feel that they should trigger his release clause and get him to the club as soon as possible.
