Manchester City have a knack for picking up significant amounts of money for some of their young players.
In previous transfer windows, the Manchester club have cashed in on the likes of Romeo Lavia, James Trafford and Shea Charles, despite them not making many first-team appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side.
In this latest summer transfer window, another young player on the books at the Etihad Stadium who has been linked with a move away from the club recently is Liam Delap.
Specifically, newly-promoted Ipswich Town look set to land a deal for the striker (via The Athletic) as they prepare for their upcoming Premier League campaign.
Now though, some behind-the-scenes details have come to light regarding the financial aspects of this particular deal.

Fabrizio Romano shares how much Man City will get for Liam Delap
In a recent post shared on his official X account, Fabrizio Romano had this to say about the details concerning Liam Delap’s move to Ipswich Town.
He said: “Paperwork being completed for Liam Delap to join Ipswich Town on £15m fee plus £5m add-ons and 20% sell-on clause to Man City.
“Announcement to follow with Delap and [Nathan] Greaves deals being signed. Ipswich travels for pre-season tour next week, both expected to be available.”
Another smart deal from City
Described as a “scary” player by Liam Rosenior (via Hull Live), Delap has been at City since 2019.
In 55 combined appearances for City’s youth sides, the striker has found the back of the net 46 times and delivered 16 assists.
Making six senior appearances for the Blues, the 21-year-old has completed loan spells with clubs such as Preston North End, Stoke City and Hull City.
Having agreed a deal to pick up £20m for a player who hasn’t been particularly prominent in Guardiola’s side while having a 20% sell-on clause, this feels, to us, like a very successful deal for City from a financial point of view.
