Fabrizio Romano has shared an update regarding Manchester City and their apparent interest in Alexis Mac Allister.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Manchester club are looking to hijack Liverpool’s move summer transfer move for the Argentine.

This has since led to one transfer expert sharing some extra details on the matter.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Here We Go Podcast, Romano said this about Mac Allister and City’s reported interest in him.

He said: “Today we had rumours of Manchester City, but I’m told that Man City are not into it. Are not negotiating at this stage for Mac Allister.”

Brighton & Hove Albion signed the midfielder back in the 2019 January transfer window for a fee of £7m and have since seen Mac Allister make 110 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists.

10 of those goals have come across the 33 Premier League appearances the 24-year-old has made this season prior to tonight’s match against Pep Guardiola’s side.

The World Cup winner has previously caught the attention of a former City star, as Sergio Aguero described Mac Allister as an “intelligent” player back in December.

In fact, the tournament in Qatar saw Mac Allister earn himself an overall performance rating of 7.11/10 from WhoScored for the six displays he made for Argentina, leaving only Angel Di Maria (7.12/10) and Lionel Messi (8.25/10) with higher ratings in the squad.

Bearing in mind how current City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is set to see his current contract at the Etihad Stadium expire next month, it’s understandable why reports chose to link them with the Brighton star.

However, taking into account what Romano has had to say on the matter, it seems that this potential move isn’t likely to happen as things stand.

Moving forward, given Liverpool’s reported intent on signing the 24-year-old this summer, if City do decide they want to make a move for him, they may be forced to move quickly.
