Rico Lewis has been the talk of the town after Manchester City’s first two Premier League games.
The 19-year-old has started both of City’s matches so far against Chelsea and Ipswich Town, and has given two top performances.
He has been, quite simply fascinating to watch. Lewis has been cropping up in some very advanced positions, such has been City’s dominance of the ball.
He is naturally a right-back, and this is the position he moves into when Manchester City do not have the ball. But once City are in possession, Lewis pushes forward and tucks inside.
Lewis has been somewhat unlucky not to get on the scoresheet thus far as a result of being so adventurous.
But he has still come in for high praise, with Pep Guardiola saying after the win over Chelsea that the ‘unbelievable’ Lewis genuinely ‘does everything good’.
Not only has Lewis impressed going forward, he has also been solid defensively.
After two rounds of Premier League fixtures, he has won the ball back 18 times for City. No player in the competition has won the ball back more times.
For a team that dominates the ball, to have won it back 18 times in the first two games is quite staggering.

City joined in the Lewis love-in yesterday, as the club posted a clip from the win over Ipswich on X.
The youngster was on hand to play a first-time pass to Mateo Kovacic in midfield after a poor Aro Muric clearance.
The ball skipped away from Kovacic a little, which invited Lewis to come forward and retrieve. An Ipswich player was threatening to pinch the loose ball, but the speedy Lewis got there first.
He then proceeded to do something that would not look out of place in the old FIFA Street video games.
Lewis quickly spun away from the player, whose momentum sent him flying to the deck.
Lewis then scampered forward before passing to Matheus Nunes.
Fans on social media could not get enough of the moment.

Lewis has the potential to become not only a world-class player, but one of the very best in football. Regardless of position.
City fans have watched Phil Foden’s rise at the Etihad, and it can now be argued that he is in that kind of bracket.
There is no reason why Lewis cannot enjoy a similar path in the game, because he has shown nothing but excellence since he came into the first-team picture.
You need only listen to what Guardiola has already said about him. The way he talks – that is a measure of how good Lewis already is.
His tactical understanding of the game is just immense for one still so young, and it is so exciting to think about his development in the coming years.
