Fans point finger at Pep Guardiola after ‘horrible’ decision saw Man City capitulate vs Feyenoord

Manchester City have tonight thrown away a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Feyenoord in the Champions League.

It was vital that Manchester City bounced back after the awful defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, with a huge game against Liverpool coming up this weekend.

City failed to do that, despite being 3-0 up after 50 minutes. City took the lead through Erling Haaland, who scored a penalty after being fouled in the area.

That goal by Haaland saw him become the youngest player ever to reach 45 goals. He then got his 46th in the competition in the second-half, but not before Ilkay Gundogan had made it 2-0.

Pep Guardiola will be livid though tonight, as defensive mistakes cost his side once more., with Feyenoord scoring three times in the final 15 minutes plus injury time.

Feyenoord scored their first after a defensive mix-up allowing Anis Hadj-Moussa to find the net. Then Santiago Jimenez tapped in minutes later after a cross squeezed past Ederson.

City then conceded once again in the 89th minute when David Hancko struck.

In many ways, this was one of the worst results of the season for City.

City needed to win tonight ahead of facing Liverpool on Sunday. But the way they threw the lead away could cause real psychological damage.

It feels like a defeat, and some fans have taken aim at Guardiola or the substitutions he made when City were 3-0 up.

Just before 70 minutes, the Manchester City manager took off Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden and Nathan Ake, and put on Kevin De Bruyne, James McAtee and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey.

Given how poor City have been at the back recently, some felt these changes were foolish.

Man City in shambles

This is an extremely damaging result.

City may not have lost the game, but the way they threw it tonight away makes it potentially worse than some of the recent defeats.

Fans are furious with Guardiola over the substations, although surely no one could have accounted for the mistakes that happened. Most people felt the game was safe when he changed things up, even given the recent struggles.

City now have to go to Anfield this weekend and the Reds will no doubt smell blood.

The way in which City give up goals at the moment is just shocking, and Guardiola once again has a lot of work to do ahead of Sunday’s massive game.
