Manchester City went top of the Premier League table on Saturday evening – and have stayed there tonight following a 2-2 draw between Arsenal and Liverpool.
Manchester City beat Southampton at the Etihad Stadium, yesterday with Erling Haaland scoring the game’s only goal.
It was not a top display by City, who are still finding their groove amid injuries to Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne. But the most important thing was to win the game, ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool facing off today.
Alan Shearer still branded City an ‘incredible’ team, despite not being in top form right now.
There was a chance for Liverpool to go back top if they had won.
But the Reds and the Gunners shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal went ahead after a brilliant goal by Bukayo Saka, who cut inside Andy Robertson before finishing at the near post.
Liverpool got back level through Virgil van Dijk, before Arsenal took the lead again before half-time. Declan Rice’s free-kick was headed in by Mikel Merino.
But Liverpool equalised again with around 15 minutes to go, with Mo Salah finishing off a nice move down the right.
Man City fans react as Arsenal v Liverpool ends in a draw

Many Manchester City fans tuned in to today’s game between Arsenal and Liverpool.
Undoubtedly, some of the City players will also have caught today’s game – although Bernardo Silva will not have been one, after he cheekily admitted he doesn’t think about either side, and that he would instead be spending his day playing with his daughter
Arguably, a draw was perhaps the best outcome for City, who now have the psychological boost of being above their title rivals.
Some City fans are now feeling very confident after finally ending a weekend top of the table.
The best outcome for Man City
For Manchester City to finish this weekend top of the Premier League table feels significant.
City have not been at their best so far this term, and yet Pep Guardiola’s side find themselves top of the pile, and the Manchester City manager and the players deserve a lot of credit.
City are still trying to deal with the injury to Rodri, and also haven’t been able to call on the highly influential Kevin De Bruye in recent weeks.
There have also been injuries for the likes of Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb, with Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku also struggling now.
So City getting their noses ahead despite all this is really good, and it’s now about trying to keep the momentum going, and trying to open up a gap between themselves and Liverpool and Arsenal.
If they are able to do so, it could be very tough for the Reds and the Gunners to keep pace.
