Phil Foden has officially signed a new contract with Manchester City.
Following suggestions towards the end of last season that the club were ready to put their faith in him, Phil Foden has penned a new deal at the Etihad Stadium until 2030.
The 26-year-old has been with the club since the age of nine, and is effectively the face of Manchester City’s academy, having enjoyed remarkable success since breaking through to the first-team nearly 10 years ago now.

The last couple of years have been tricky at times.
But Foden clearly still has the belief of the club and new manager Enzo Maresca.
Following this big development, Manchester City News asked its TalkingPoints users for their thoughts about Foden’s new deal.
Fans react as Phil Foden pens new Man City contract, and the reaction is mixed
There was a bit of talk that Foden could potentially leave City.
Having won everything with the club and with Pep Guardiola leaving, some have wondered if this might be the time for Foden to have a fresh start.
Plenty of others have hoped he would stay, and rediscover the form that made him the best player in the Premier League two years ago.
The reaction to Foden has been mixed in recent times, and that has again been the case when we asked fans via our TalkingPoints platform.
Starting with the positives:
- ‘New manager might actually be good for him, but he’s been supplanted by Cherki as City’s best creator. Interested to see what Foden’s role is next season’
- ‘Can’t picture him playing for another club. But also feels like his development has stagnated over the last season or so. Curious to see how he performs under a new manager’.
- ‘Foden will explode under Enzo… Pep didn’t give him enough game time imo… then again, who am I to question the second greatest manager of all time. Enzo will probably make him his main man and I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets back to his best level.
- ‘This is his year to prove himself again. One of the best in the league and he’s about to show it’.
- ‘I think this is the right move for him with Maresca coming in. Had patches where he looked back on track last season, but they weren’t consistent. Fresh start. Club legend’.
- ‘Good decision to extend Foden’s deal, but he now has a lot to prove. Many felt it was Pep who failed to get the best out of him’.
But some feel this is either the wrong move by the player, or City merely protecting the value of an asset.
- ‘His best years are already behind him. Will be out on loan in 27/28 after another nothing season’.
- ‘Man City are simply protecting Foden’s value instead of letting him leave on a free in 2027. His time at the Etihad is likely still nearing its end’.
- ‘Wrong call. You are a legend at City. 6 titles, plus a Treble at 26, is crazy. If he continues at that rate, he is winning more titles than any player in history bar Giggs? To continue that is difficult, that’s why he has dropped off. It’s normal. He should have left the country. You have a reputation, start afresh elsewhere’.
- ‘Can’t help but feel this is a mistake… Think he desperately needs a change of scenery. Staying where he is comfortable!’
- ‘Silly, silly boy! So much potential and should be playing week in, week out! Great for City, of course, but feel he might need a new challenge’.
Something that was common in most responses though was that this is a huge season coming up for Foden.
Last season, he didn’t perform as we know he can, and many are worried we won’t see the Foden of old.
But Maresca’s arrival offers a chance to turn over a new leaf, and Foden has already talked up the Italian’s arrival, and the chance to work with him again.
Hopefully, it will turn out to be a dream duo, and Foden can help City take back the Premier League title from Arsenal.
