Manchester United legend Denis Irwin has lavished praise on to Pep Guardiola after he won the treble with Manchester City.
The legendary left-back was speaking to Off The Ball, when he was quizzed about whether the Catalan tactician had surpassed Sir Alex Ferguson.
While Denis Irwin had a diplomatic opinion on this comparison, he put his Manchester United past aside to laud Pep Guardiola.

The comparisons between Guardiola and Ferguson are unlikely to stop anytime soon, especially after the former, branded as ‘brilliant’ for the English national team by Gareth Southgate via the Times matched the latter’s feat on British shores.
After all, Jamie Carragher went as far as to say that there is not even a debate that the Spaniard has usurped the Scot as the best manager of all time.
While Denis Irwin chose not to pick the better manager between his former Manchester United boss and Pep Guardiola, he gave the latter a lot of credit.
“Guardiola has done a great job at Barcelona. He had an incredible team there to watch. Bayern Munich, he did a great job and City now. City are very, very strong, obviously have grabbed the Premier League five times in the last six. First Champions League, FA Cups, League Cups, they’re a very strong team at the moment.”
“So, you’ve got to say he’s done a fantastic job as well.”

Even before Pep Guardiola became the only manager to have won two trebles, it is likely that Denis Irwin and other such stalwarts that played at the elite level had huge respect for him.
Guardiola’s undeniable impact on the game is especially hailed by those that understand how hard it is dominate at the very top.
