Former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has lavished praise upon Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City side.

Speaking to The Athletic, the Norwegian manager gave his two cents on locking horns with the Sky Blues and Liverpool.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City side were impossible to topple.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer raves about ‘fantastic’ Pep Guardiola

At the time, the ex-Red Devils manager did have quite an impressive record up against Guardiola.

However, it is also worth mentioning that it is almost impossible to beat the Catalan on a league basis, with Rio Ferdinand also admitting that he is the ‘greatest’ manager in the history of the game at this point.

Now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has pinpointed the challenges of going toe-to-toe against Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City team as well as Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

“Those City and Liverpool teams were the best that their clubs, with fantastic managers have ever had. I know that’s a bold statement because Liverpool were so good in the ’80s but they were a fantastic side under Jurgen Klopp”, he said.

Pep Guardiola is the worst possible nemesis for any manager

Ultimately, in terms of toppling Manchester City, one can understand why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had a hard time doing so with Pep Guardiola in charge.

Branded as ‘unbelievable’ by Owen Hargreaves (All Football), the Spaniard is arguably the greatest tactical mind to have ever lived.

Not only were City smarter than United in the market whilst having a better base of personnel but Guardiola’s tactical ingenuity season after season is almost impossible to predict or contend with.

This was one of the many reasons why while Solskjaer could perhaps take the all-important three points in a one-off game, to vanquish the 52-year-over a full campaign was far too difficult a task.

Pep Guardiola is simply one of one and that really is that.
