It has been reported that Manchester City are not far off Chelsea’s valuation to seal a transfer for Mateo Kovacic after all.
This comes from Fabrizio Romano, as it has been claimed that Pep Guardiola’s side have made an initial offer of £21.3 million to sign the Croatian international.
It seems like the Italian journalist was right all along when he claimed that Manchester City were just ‘final millions’ away from wrapping up a summer transfer for Mateo Kovacic.
How much do Manchester City need to pay to seal Mateo Kovacic transfer?
Branded as a player with ‘unreal control’ as per Chelsea’s official YouTube channel, the 29-year-old is expected to come in to replace either Ilkay Gundogan or Bernardo Silva, with the pair linked with exits.
It has been previously reported that Pep Guardiola himself has a lot of admiration in store for the three-time Champions League winner for the past five years.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea demand at least £25.6 million from Manchester City to sell Mateo Kovacic.

Romano does go on to report that personal terms between both clubs have been agreed and the deal is currently at the ‘final stages.’
Unless the Sky Blues explore a transfer for Declan Rice, this move looks likely to get over the line.
The Chelsea midfielder is perhaps the most Manchester City player in the league
Not many players across the Premier League look tailor-made to play for Manchester City but Mateo Kovacic is the exception.
As an all-round midfielder, the former Real Madrid ace has all the technical and defensive attributes to fit into Pep Guardiola’s side.
Much like Bernardo Silva, the decorated attacker’s ball-carrying and controlling instincts are top-notch, whilst being a tenacious tackler.
While technically, much like any of City’s current roster, he is on another level to most.
In a more possession-based side than Chelsea, he could unleash the best version of himself.
