Manchester City are the champions of Europe, and there are a number of players who deserve an unbelievable amount of credit for this achievement.
Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland and Ilkay Gundogan all haven’t been short of praise in recent weeks, but John Stones is another player who deserves plaudits for his role in this treble-winning season.
Stones has been immense for City this term, he’s played in three different positions and he’s played his role to perfection.
He was at it again in the Champions League final on Saturday, and his showing caught the eye of Mark Schwarzer.
The pundit was speaking on the GegenPod about the £50m man, and he says that the England international put in a flawless performance against Inter in the final.
Flawless
Schwarzer hailed Stones’ showing.
“I think he has been one of their best players all season. The transition from centre-half to right-back to the centre of midfield. He benefitted to the fact that Rodri was under so much pressure. For most of the game he was cancelled out, John Stones was the player that was free. I thought he had a flawless performance in the game, but unfortunately for him he had to go off with what looked like a small injury,” Schwarzer said.

Schwarzer is absolutely right, Stones barely put a foot wrong in the final, but, let’s be honest, did anyone expect anything less?
The centre-back has been immense in almost every single game he’s played this season and a poor showing from Stones these days is as rare as a sunflower in the desert.
Stones put in what you would call a typical performance on Saturday, and while Rodri may have been the Man of the Match, Stones was undoubtedly one of the best players on the pitch.
