Foden can win the Ballon d'Or one day, says Owen

Michael Owen has told the PFA’s official YouTube channel that Phil Foden could win the Ballon d’Or one day.

Owen makes bold prediction about Foden in the future

The former Liverpool striker, who won the Ballon d’Or at the same age as the Manchester City attacker (22) suggests he could the same one day.

“I’m a huge Phil Foden fan. I think he’s just unbelievable. And I think we’ve spoken about Ballon d’Ors. If there’s one person in the England team who could win one in the future, then it could be him [Phil Foden].”

“I think he’s that good.”

The Stockport-born youngster finished as high as 22nd in the Ballon d’Or rankings for 2022, after a season where he mostly operated out of position as a false 9 in Pep Guardiola’s side.

In the rankings for the award in 2021 as well, the 22-year-old finished at 25th after a stellar season with City, which shows that he is already on the way to become the 5th English player in history to win the prestigious award.

Foden has all the tools to win the Ballon d’Or one day

At such a young age already, Phil Foden ticks several checklists that make him a potential Ballon d’Or winner in the future.

For starters, the versatile attacker is well on course to become the most decorated English player of all time, winning a staggering four Premier League titles at 22.

With Pep Guardiola reportedly set to sign a two-year contract extension until 2025, as per the Daily Mail, there is no reason to believe that the Englishman will stop lifting silverware anytime soon.

Under Guardiola, the two-time PFA Player of the Year winner has developed as an incredibly complete player, first thriving out wide and going on to showcase his class as a makeshift striker.

With Phil Foden yet to even operate in his natural position as a No.10, due the presence of Kevin De Bruyne in particular, a whole new beast could be unleashed in the future as he spearheads this Sky Blues side.

Michael Owen’s Ballon d’Or shout regarding Foden is not as outlandish as one may think.
