‘For me’… Eduardo Camavinga names £43m Man City star as the toughest player he has ever faced

Real Madrid star Eduardo Camavinga has named Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva as the toughest opponent he has come up against.

At the age of 21, the Frenchman has made over 200 combined senior appearances for Real and his previous club Rennes, going up against numerous players along the way.

Despite it still being fairly early in his career, the midfielder has shed some light on which player has given him the toughest time on the pitch.

Speaking in a recent quickfire interview with JD Football, Camavinga had this to say when asked who the toughest opponent he has ever played against is.

He said: “For me, I think it was Bernardo Silva, last year.”

City signed the 29-year-old back in the 2017 summer transfer window from AS Monaco in a deal worth £43m.

Since then, Silva has made 323 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions, scoring 58 goals and providing 62 assists along the way.

Looking back to last season’s Champions League semi-final second-leg clash between Real and City at the Etihad Stadium, Camavinga played as a left-back and was up against Silva, who was playing on the right.

With the Portuguese international scoring two goals on the night as well as completing three dribbles and accurately making 52 of the 58 passes he attempted, ultimately earning himself a strong match rating of 8.7/10 from SofaScore, it’s easy to see why Camavinga found it so difficult to deal with him.

Having picked up a yellow card and being taken off in the 79th minute, the makeshift full-back was given a poor match rating of 5.6/10 from SofaScore, showing how much of a night to forget it was for him.

Moving forward, should the two clubs find themselves facing off against each other in the Champions League once again this season, it’d be safe to assume that the Frenchman wouldn’t relish going up against the City star.
