Nathan Ake has shared a reassuring update concerning the injury he picked up during Manchester City’s pre-season friendly match against Bayern Munich.
Having started the 2-1 win over Bayern on Wednesday, the defender was forced off the pitch after just 29 minutes with a suspected injury, being replaced by Manuel Akanji.
Now though, the Dutchman has shared an update on the situation which should have lots of City fans and Pep Guardiola delighted.
Ake shares injury update
Speaking to The Athletic, Ake had this to say about his injury.
He said: “It’s a tight calf. We will see in the next few days, but it’s nothing serious. I’ll be ok next week, for sure.”
City signed the 28-year-old back in the 2020 summer transfer window from Bournemouth in a deal worth a reported fee of £41m.
Since then, the centre-back has made 81 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions, scoring seven goals along the way and winning three Premier League titles.
Having featured in 41 games last season and completed the full 90 minutes of the Champions League final against Inter Milan, this showcases how important he is for the team and how much Guardiola values him.
Also, the fact that the Manchester club have recently rewarded Ake by offering him a four-year contract, which he has now signed, shows how significant he has been for them.
Now that the Netherlands international has revealed that his injury from the Bayern game is not a serious one and that he should be back to normal fitness by next week, this will undoubtedly be great news for everyone at the club as they head into their upcoming season.
