Djordje Petrovic has claimed that Cole Palmer was quite underrated during his time at Manchester City.

Nowadays, the Chelsea winger has become the talk of the town, with Garth Crooks recently describing him as a “revelation” at Stamford Bridge.

But Cole Palmer always seemed destined to reach the top, as he made an impression for City’s first-team on several occasions, with him seeming guaranteed to make the grade at his boyhood club.

Djordje Petrovic says Cole Palmer was underrated at Manchester City

It seemed like Manchester City had produced yet another exceptional talent from day one, who was set to lead their side alongside other youth products like Phil Foden and Rico Lewis for the next decade.

However, it took the £40 million (Sky Sports) man to sign for Chelsea for the world to realise that England had yet another gem on their hands, who could potentially be in line for a spot in the Three Lions’ squad for Euro 2024.

When quizzed about which player at Chelsea is the most underrated, Djordje Petrovic mentioned Cole Palmer for his spell at Manchester City.

“Now, we hype about Cole [Palmer] and I can say Cole. But before he signed for Chelsea, Cole, for sure”, he told Sky Sports in an interview.

Djordje Petrovic was asked about whether he watched Cole Palmer during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

“Yeah. And okay, to be honest, I didn’t expect, how many goals and assists but he showed the quality.”

Manchester City should be proud that they produced a talent like Cole Palmer

It is impressive to discover that Cole Palmer was catching the eye during his cameo appearances and odd starts for Manchester City, to the extent that Djordje Petrovic felt he was underrated.

While Palmer and City’s association ended in the summer, the club should feel proud that they developed a talent like him, who is already one of the best players in the Premier League.

Internally, the Sky Blues should look at the Chelsea talisman as an example of how to develop their next superstar winger.
