Gary Lineker has now described Manchester City No.17 Kevin De Bruyne as one of the most creative footballers in history.

The 62-year-old was speaking alongside Alan Shearer and Micah Richards on the Match of the Day Top 10 programme.

So, what did Gary Lineker say about Kevin De Bruyne? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the trio were discussing the best assists in Premier League history.

De Bruyne unsurprisingly entered the conversation, having recorded a remarkable total of 102 assists in 243 Premier League appearances, and it was said that “not many” in history have been more creative.

Speaking about the Belgium international, Lineker said: “You could probably list about 50 assists from De Bruyne… not many players have done more assists, that’s for sure. He’s also very versatile, he can play wide, he can play in the middle, he can play as a ten, as a six or an eight… imagine playing up front with him.”

Clearly, the BBC Match of the Day host has a lot of admiration for the 32-year-old.

However, football fans on these shores could soon lose the treat of watching De Bruyne performing magic in the Premier League.

Manchester City making plans for life after Kevin De Bruyne

Time waits for nobody, and despite the fact he is still an exceptional football, Manchester City are already thinking about De Bruyne’s replacement as he battles against serious hamstring problems.

A story from BILD in Germany claims that Pep Guardiola wants Bayern Munich No.42 Jamal Musiala as a replacement for the Belgian.

It comes amid another story – this time from TEAMtalk – who believe De Bruyne is set to be targeted by Saudi Arabia in 2024 as the nation aims to continue investing huge amounts of money into football.

The Drongen-born playmaker’s contract will also have just 12 months remaining at the end of this season, so decision time is approaching for all parties.

Be sure to keep an eye on De Bruyne’s situation, as anything could happen in 2024.
