‘For sure’… Jorginho says two of the Premier League’s top five players are at Man City

Jorginho has named two Manchester City stars in his list of the top five Premier League players.

The combative midfielder felt first-hand just how unstoppable City are last season when his Arsenal side led the way in the Premier League for months only to be reeled in and finish second.

That was just one stop on Pep Guardiola’s side’s march to a historic treble triumph and then on to be crowned world champions in December.

Despite City’s immense success, Jorginho has only named two of their players in his Premier League top five, with one especially notable snub.

When it was put to the Italian that Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah were three of the players on his list by the JD Football interviewer, Jorginho said: “These three for sure.

“It’s a tough one, yeah it’s tough.”

The interviewer then suggested that City stalwart Rodri would make the cut but Jorginho disagreed.

“It could be,” he continued. “But I will go for [Bukayo] Saka, and for the fifth, I will put Reece James,”

Rodri snubbed

It’s hard to argue too much on four of Jorginho’s five picks. It goes without saying that De Bruyne and Haaland make the grade, considering they are two of the greatest players on the planet.

Likewise, Liverpool icon Salah continues to dazzle and score bucketloads of goals.

The inclusion of Saka is a little generous but given he is Jorginho’s teammate perhaps some leeway can be afforded.

But selecting Chelsea captain James over Rodri is a stretch too far. The right-back is a fantastic player, no doubt about it, but one who is always injured.

The 24-year-old is currently side-lined again with a hamstring injury and has only managed to play nine times all season.

Rodri, meanwhile, is the most crucial member of a remarkably successful City team. The Spaniard has not lost a match for well over a year now, with the Blues’ defeats all coming when he was unavailable.

City’s No.16 is the best defensive midfielder on the planet and is continuing to go underappreciated.
