Phil Foden delivered a dazzling display during Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United in the Premier League.

Goals from Rodri and Julian Alvarez gave the Citizens their final home win of 2023 following on from their midweek victory over Everton at Goodison Park.

Despite not getting his name on the scoresheet on this occasion, one player who still managed to have a big impact in the game that we feel deserves special praise is Foden.

With the full 90 minutes under his belt against the Blades, the Englishman, who was deployed once again in an attacking-midfield position, had 100 touches of the ball in total.

Within those 100 touches, the Englishman accurately completed 82 of the 84 passes he attempted, leaving him with a passing accuracy percentage of 98%, the joint-highest in the City team.

In addition to that, Foden made six key passes in total and assisted both of City’s goals, further highlighting how much of a creative force he can be when playing as an attacking-midfielder rather than out wide.

This performance ultimately earned the 23-year-old an impressive overall match rating of 9.2/10 from SofaScore, making him the highest-rated City player on the day, even above the two goalscorers.

Bearing in mind how Foden said after the 3-1 win over Everton that he loves playing in midfield and hopes to continue playing there, this display against the Blades has further increased his reputation for being so impressive when he does get to perform there.

Moving forward, if Pep Guardiola continues to play the England international in his current role on a consistent basis and he’s able to keep delivering the sort of performances he has done recently, he will undoubtedly give his side a great chance of regaining the titles they won last season.
