‘Formidable’ Manchester City player makes complete U-turn over his future

One of the current Manchester City players who have failed to make a massive impact under manager Pep Guardiola is Kalvin Phillips.

Much was expected of Kalvin Phillips when he joined Manchester City from Leeds United in the summer of 2022.

Phillips had done extremely well for Leeds first in the Championship and then in the Premier League.

The midfielder was ready for the next step in his career.

City Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, described Phillips on the club’s official website as “a formidable talent” with “fantastic ability and quality”, adding that he would be a “superb addition to our squad”.

Things have not worked out for the 27-year-old England international midfielder at the Etihad Stadium.

Kalvin Phillips open to leaving Manchester City

Phillips has played only 70 minutes in the Premier League this season and made just two starts in the league last campaign.

According to ESPN, Phillips could leave City, who won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup last season, in the January transfer window.

The report has claimed that Phillips is ready to leave City because of a lack of playing time.

The Englishman did not want to leave City in the summer transfer window and made it clear to the club that he wanted to stay.

But, Phillips is now ready to move away from City in the middle of the season to make sure that he keeps his place in the England squad for the Euro 2024 finals.

A loan move is more likely than a permanent exit in January, according to the report.

My View: Manchester City should let Kalvin Phillips leave

In my opinion, Manchester City should let Kalvin Phillips leave on a loan deal in the January transfer window.

Even with Rodri suspended, City manager Pep Guardiola is not using Phillips.

That is a clear indicator that Guardiola does not rate Phillips highly.

I think that City should just let the midfielder go.

Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich are among the clubs linked with the England international, so he does have options.
