Former Manchester City and Chelsea player Frank Lampard is one of the best midfielders in Premier League history.

Having scored 177 goals and delivered 113 assists in 611 top-flight games between 1995 and 2015, the Englishman was one of the first eight former players to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame back in 2021.

During his final year in England, Lampard scored six goals and delivered one assist in 32 league games for City across the 2014/15 campaign.

Now though, the 46-year-old has shared a post on social media with one of City’s current stars who Lampard clearly has a lot of admiration for.

Frank Lampard shares Instagram post with Rodri

In a recent post shared on his official Instagram page, Lampard uploaded a picture of himself alongside Rodri.

For a caption, the former England midfielder said this.

He said: “Loved spending time with this midfield maestro.”

Rodri is one of the best midfielders in the world

Since joining the Manchester club back in 2019, just four years after Lampard left the Etihad Stadium, Rodri has gone on to make 259 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side in all competitions.

Across those games, the Spaniard has scored 26 goals, delivered 30 assists and won multiple trophies along the way.

As one of the four City players nominated for the 2024 Ballon d’Or, Rodri has recently been backed by Cesc Fabregas to win the award over Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior.

Looking back over the previous Premier League campaign, Rodri earned himself an overall season rating of 7.62/10 from WhoScored, making him the second-highest-rated player in the division.

Now that Lampard, who knows what it takes to be a top midfielder, has dubbed the City star a maestro, this further highlights how much of a high-level player the Spain international is.
