Manchester City tried to secure a loan deal for Chelsea full-back, Marc Cucurella, during the previous January transfer window.
The left-back was linked with a loan move to Manchester United during the final days of the recent summer window, only for a potential deal to collapse.
Now though, one journalist has shared some behind-the-scenes details on another occasion where the Spaniard was of interest to a different Premier League side.
Romano says City tried to sign Cucurella in January

Speaking in a recent video on his YouTube channel, Romano had this to say on the matter.
He said: “It’s also important to say that for Marc Cucurella, there was something even in January.

“From what I’m told, and this is exclusive information, something behind the scenes, last January, January 2023, Manchester City, in a secret way, presented a proposal for Marc Cucurella, it was a loan with a buy option clause, not mandatory, that was rejected by Chelsea.”
The Citizens were linked with a move for the 25-year-old shortly before he eventually made his £60m move to Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion back in the 2022 summer transfer window.

With that in mind and the fact that Joao Cancelo made a move away from the Etihad Stadium last January to join Bayern Munich on loan, this makes it easy to see why the treble winners made an attempt to sign him on a temporary basis from Chelsea.
Described as a “spectacular” player by Rodri Tarin, Cucurella has made 34 appearances for the west London club but has yet to make a Premier League appearance for them in this current campaign, which suggests that he is not at the top of Mauricio Pochettino’s pecking order at the moment.
Moving forward, it’ll be interesting to see how much game time the former Brighton star gets this season and if City or United make another attempt to sign him in January.
