Manchester City now want to sell Kalvin Phillips in January – with Newcastle considering a move.
That is according to Graeme Bailey of 90min – who made the comment on the Talking Transfers podcast.
So, what is the latest on Kalvin Phillips at Manchester City? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, both Manchester City and the England international have given it a go – but things sadly haven’t worked out.
Phillips has only made two Premier League starts since his £45m move from Leeds in July 2022, with Pep Guardiola and his staff under the impression that the 27-year-old struggles to move the ball quickly in tight spaces, according to The Athletic.
The writing seemed to be on the wall when the Manchester City No.4 continued to be overlooked, despite Rodri’s recent red card in the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest earning him a ban.
Now, it sounds as if Manchester City have decided to part ways with Phillips.
Bailey said: “I think it’s likely to be a loan deal to replace Tonali. There are options out there. Kalvin Phillips being the main one. He will be available on loan, from what we are being told. City would like to sell him, but would be open to a loan.”

By the sounds of it, Manchester City do not mind whether Phillips leaves initially on loan or permanently – they just want him gone from the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City could hold a bidding war for Kalvin Phillips
Newcastle are not the only side keen to sign Phillips.
A story from Sky Germany mentioned that Liverpool could make a move for the Leeds-born maestro.

That same article added that Juventus and Bayern Munich are other possible destinations for Phillips, who looks set to have a host of potential suitors this winter.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as the £160,000-a-week man looks certain to leave the Etihad Stadium in 2024 after a miserable time under Guardiola.
